Danceline takes on Texas

GBHS team will remember the Alamo forever

They will forever remember the Alamo.

It was the trip of their high school careers for the Great Bend High School Panther Danceline team as they traveled to San Antonio, Texas, during the Christmas break to perform at the Alamo Bowl.

“It was awesome,” said their coach, Lita Allen. “They had never performed before a crowd like that.”

Featuring a game between the Kansas State University Wildcats and the UCLA Bruins, the danceline performed before a large and enthusiastic Kansas crowd. The 14 girls and one boy from Great Bend were among the large ensemble of teams that executed a choreographed dance on field with an impressive marching band.

“It was an exceptional experience,” Allen said.

One highlight of the trip was taking the stage at a pep rally at Rudy’s BBQ prior to the game. That performance of a routine of their choosing had been choreographed for a much larger venue. When Allen scoped it out and learned how small the stage was, the team only had two hours to change their formations and make it work.

“They pulled it off,” she said. “I was proud of them and impressed.”

Although the team didn’t score any television time during the halftime show, it was videotaped. To see it and the show at the pep rally, please check out their GBHS danceline Facebook page.
