Substitute Teaching in Great Bend Public Schools

Substitute Eligibility

Substitute teachers for all USD 428 schools are secured through the District
Education Center from a list of qualified personnel.

To be eligible, a substitute must have a Kansas teaching license, a Kansas
substitute teaching license, or an *emergency substitute license.

All persons approved for substitute teaching need to have the proper forms on file with the District Education Center at 201 Patton Road. The packet may be obtained at the District Education Center, 201 Patton Road. Inquiries should be directed to Donna Gales, 620-793-1500.

Effective July 1, 2002, all applicants for initial Kansas certification as well as
applicants whose certificates have been expired for six months or more, are
required to submit fingerprint cards for a criminal history records check.
The fee for the background check is $44.00 and is to be paid by the applicant.
Persons with an expired teaching certificate may apply for a five-year substitute teaching certificate ($36).

*Emergency substitute certificates are issued by the Kansas State Dept. of
Education. An official transcript is required with at least 60 hours of college
credit. No photocopies or grade cards will be accepted. If you were issued an Emergency Substitute License on August 1, 1999, or later, you do not need to resubmit transcripts unless your degree information has changed.

The transcript must be submitted with a completed application and a $36.00 fee from the applicant. The certificate can be used for any Kansas school for a period of one year.

All persons approved for substitute teaching need to have the following forms on file with the District Education Center, 201 Patton Road: completed application, photocopy of a current teaching license or emergency license, W-4, Form I-9 (Employment Eligibility Verification), oath of affirmation, new employee information sheet, tuberculin skin test results sheet, direct deposit information form, blood borne pathogens, record check request, and photocopy of driver's license and Social Security card or birth certificate.

Substitute teacher pay is $85.00 per day; $45 for one-half day.
