Substitute Eligibility

Substitute teachers for all USD 428 schools are secured through the District
Education Center from a list of qualified personnel.

To be eligible, a substitute must have a Kansas teaching license, a Kansas
substitute teaching license, or a *Kansas emergency substitute license.

The Kansas State Department of Education requires all applicants for an initial Kansas license, as well as applicants whose license has expired, to submit a fingerprint card for a criminal history records check to the KSDE.  The fee for the background check is $50.00 and is to be paid by the applicant.
Persons with an expired teaching license may apply for a five-year Kansas Substitute Teaching license through KSDE the fee is $54.00.

*Emergency substitute licenses are issued by the Kansas State Dept. of Education. An official transcript is required with at least 60 hours of college credit. No photocopies or grade cards will be accepted. If you were issued an Emergency Substitute License on August 1, 1999, or later, you do not need to resubmit transcripts unless your degree information has changed.
The transcript must be submitted with a completed application and a $42.00 fee from the applicant.  The license can be used for any Kansas school.

All persons approved for substitute teaching through KSDE (www.ksde.org) and wanting to substitute for USD #428, need to have the proper forms on file with the District Education Center at 201 Patton Road:  completed application, photocopy of a current teaching license or emergency license, W-4, K-4, Form I-9 (Employment Eligibility Verification), oath of affirmation, new employee information sheet, tuberculin skin test results sheet, direct deposit information form, blood borne pathogens, background check request, photocopy of driver's license and Social Security card or birth certificate.

Substitute teacher pay is $100.00 per day; $50.00 for one-half day.
