Unified School District 428, Great Bend, is the sponsoring district of the Barton County Cooperative Program of Special Services. The cooperative was created to provide special education for exceptional children who live in the Barton County area.

An exceptional child is one whose physical, mental, social, emotional, or educational characteristics differ from most children of the same age or grade to the degree that special education services are needed.

Evaluation is provided for school-aged children who appear to be exceptional. Coordination of special education services with services provided by other community agencies is arranged to promote appropriate education opportunities for exceptional children.

Confidentiality of all information concerning the child and the child's family is maintained in accordance with state laws and the Family Rights of Privacy Act.

Mentally handicapped

Physically impaired

Severely / multiply handicapped

Learning disabled

Speech / language impaired

Visually impaired

Developmentally delayed

Autistic

Brain injured
