What is PTRC?

PTRC is a workroom created by USD 428 – Great Bend Schools as a ³ BENEFIT for Teachers & Staff ³ RESOURCE for Children & Parents ³ SERVICE for Everyone in Barton & surrounding Counties ³ PTRC is available to be used by Everyone in the Community – Barton & surrounding Counties ³ Available to Businesses – Churches – Day Care – Service Organizations – Clubs – etc. ³ Customers come from Michigan – Texas – Missouri – Colorado – all over Kansas

³ Centrally located in Washington School ³ Handicapped accessible ³ Staffed full-time for assistance, ideas and advise ³ Stocked with idea books, samples, & how-to suggestions ³ A comfortable place to work ³ A warm friendly environment to be yourself ³ Equipped with large tables & good lighting ³ Conveniently stocked with working tools: scissors, glue, rulers, pencils, markers, tape, & staplers

History

The Parent Teacher Resource Center opened its doors in January 1997. It was patterned after the Resource Center in Wichita, KS. Original funding for the PTRC was from a special grant through the Migrant Education Program. Our main emphasis is to get parents from the Migrant and Title I education programs into the center to make learning aids for their children. PTRC was originally located south of the Post Office in what is now the Life Giving Center of Extreme Hope Christian Fellowship. PTRC then moved to the east side of Washington School and then into the library of Morrison School. PTRC then returned to Washington School on the west side in the old gymnasium for 7 years. Summer of 2011, PTRC has a beautiful new home in the southwest corner of Washington School (the old Kindergarten) in rooms updated for our customers’ needs. PTRC strives to enhance student growth through support and assistance to parents and students.
