Panther card fund raiser begins

Great Bend High School Panther card sales will begin July 31.
High school student athletes will be canvassing the community on that date to raise funds for the athletic department. This is the only fundraiser for the department and the profit from the sales is used to provide items that would not otherwise be available due to budget limitations.
If you have not been contacted in the past and are interested in purchasing a card, you may call the activities office by calling 793-1560. The Panther card is valid at participating businesses from Aug. 1 through July 31, 2010.
The cards sell for $10 each and you must present the card at the sponsoring businesses to receive their promotional items/discounts.

Students who plan to sell cards, but have not signed up, please do so in the activities office at the high school by July 21.

Proposed school budget maintains mill levy

Good news in bad times is hard to come by, but good planning by the USD 428 school board will greatly reduce the impact of tough economic times on local school patrons. The local mill levy will remain nearly constant from last year, according to the proposed 2009-2010 school-year budget.
“It’s been a long-standing goal of the school board to leave the mill levy flat with no big surprises for taxpayers from year to year,” said Dan Brungardt, USD 428 director of business. “In good years, money is placed in reserves; in bad years, the savings is available for use.”
